Elevate Aviation Launches “Cash for Cables” Program to Get Broken Pushback Communication Cables Off Airport Ramps

New GroundComm initiative gives airlines and ground handling providers $25 toward a GroundComm X30 for every qualifying INOP pushback communication cable removed from service — regardless of brand.

LAS VEGAS — September 2, 2026 — Elevate Aviation, LLC today announced the launch of its GroundComm™ INOP Cable Trade-In Program, a new aviation safety and cost-reduction initiative designed to help airlines, ground service providers and aviation operators permanently remove damaged, unreliable and inoperative pushback communication cables from operational circulation.
Marketed under the campaign “Cash for Cables,” the program provides a $25 GroundComm X30 Promotional Trade-In Credit for every qualifying INOP pushback communication cable submitted, received and approved by Elevate Aviation.
Despite the campaign name, no cash is exchanged. “Cash for Cables” is a marketing term for the promotional trade-in credit.
Most importantly, the cable does not have to be a GroundComm product.
Cables from other manufacturers and brands may qualify.
“If a cable has already been identified as INOP, damaged or unreliable, it shouldn’t have another opportunity to accidentally end up back on a tug,” said Tyler Wolfe, Executive Vice President and Co-Founder of Elevate Aviation. “We wanted to create a financial reason for stations to get those cables out of circulation permanently — while helping them offset the cost of replacing that equipment with something built for the realities of ramp operations.”
A Small Piece of Equipment With a Critical Job
During pushback and aircraft towing operations, communication between ground personnel and the flight deck is not optional background activity — it is a critical operational function.
The FAA’s current Advisory Circular AC 00-65A, Towbar and Towbarless Movement of Aircraft, states that “Proper communication is critical for safe aircraft towing operations.” The same FAA guidance recommends that equipment used in towing operations be serviceable and functioning properly, that equipment be inspected for defects before use, and that equipment with defects affecting safety be taken out of service. The FAA further advises that a tow vehicle operator should stop the operation when communication with the cockpit observer, control tower or ramp control is lost. Elevate Aviation believes the same safety mindset should extend to the communication equipment connecting those employees.
A cable already known to be unreliable should not be sitting close enough to the operation to be mistakenly put back into service.
Ramp Safety Is Receiving Renewed Federal Attention
The program launches as ramp worker safety continues to receive attention across the U.S. aviation industry.
In May 2025, the FAA convened airlines, airports, labor organizations, ground operations stakeholders and safety organizations for a dedicated Ramp Worker Safety Listening Session. The agency noted that the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 mandated a review of airport ramp worker safety and methods to reduce accidents. (Federal Aviation Administration)
Elevate’s program does not suggest that defective communication cables are responsible for all — or even a measurable percentage — of ramp incidents. Rather, the company is targeting one identifiable and preventable equipment condition: a communication cable that an operation already knows should no longer be relied upon.
Preventable Ground Disruptions Matter
Operational reliability has a financial impact as well.
U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics data show that reporting carriers operated approximately 7.74 million flights in 2025. More than 1.63 million departures were delayed, representing roughly 21% of departures, while more than 118,000 flights were canceled.
Those figures are not attributed to pushback communication cables, and Elevate Aviation does not represent otherwise. They demonstrate, however, the scale at which airlines operate and why even comparatively small, preventable equipment problems can matter when multiplied across stations, turns, and thousands of daily operations.
The GroundComm trade-in initiative is built around a straightforward question:
If everyone at the station already knows a cable is bad, why leave it where someone can accidentally use it again?
How “Cash for Cables” Works
Submit the cables online. Airlines, GSPs, and other eligible aviation operators register each INOP pushback communication cable through the GroundComm online trade-in portal.
Ship them to Elevate Aviation. The participant ships the cables via USPS to Elevate Aviation’s receiving location in Vienna, Ohio. Elevate Aviation does not pay or reimburse inbound shipping. Each shipment must contain its assigned Submission ID and USPS tracking information.
Elevate inspects every cable. Submitted cables are physically received, identified and inspected. Brand, cable color, reported failure mode, failure location and other characteristics may also be recorded to help identify real-world equipment-failure patterns.
Receive GroundComm X30 credit. Each qualifying cable approved earns one $25 promotional trade-in credit toward one new GroundComm X30 purchased through The Crew Hangar.
Credits cannot be redeemed for cash, are non-transferable, are associated with the RampRewards account/email used for the submission, cannot be stacked against the same GroundComm X30, and are valid for one year from issuance, subject to the complete Program Terms and Conditions.
Any Brand Means Any Brand
Elevate Aviation intentionally designed the program without requiring participants to trade in an existing GroundComm product.
A worn yellow cable from one manufacturer, an older black coiled cable from another, or an unbranded cable that has repeatedly produced intermittent communication may all be submitted for evaluation.
That approach gives stations a practical way to remove obsolete and unreliable equipment while also giving Elevate X something valuable beyond the surrendered hardware: real-world information about how pushback communication cables are failing in active aviation environments.
The company plans to analyze trade-in data such as reported manufacturer, cable color, construction, approximate length, failure type and failure location to identify patterns that can inform future GroundComm product development.
“We don’t just want the good cable to be available,” Wolfe said. “We want the known bad cable gone. If this program helps a station remove ten questionable cables from circulation and replace them with equipment they can confidently put on the ramp, that is a win for the operation, the airline and the people doing the job.”

Federal sources behind the release
The strongest fact in this whole release is actually not a marketing statistic. It is the FAA’s active towing guidance: communication is considered critical, equipment used in towing should be serviceable, defects that can affect safety should result in equipment being removed from service, and towing should stop after a loss of required communication.
